For me it is important that as a designer I can accommodate to all people. Nike are one of my favourite brands and for me it would be an honour if I got to work as a designer for the company. I was looking for some new trainers to add to my growing collection and I found an article that Nike have designed a shoe suitable for people with disabilities.

As a company Nike are very well known for not being afraid to experiment with new technologies to reach the customer, and as a company they have definitely done just that with the new Zoom Soldier 8. These are a trainer which are designed for people facing disabilities which could cause problems with existing shoes, such as those who have suffered a stroke or cerebral palsy.

The technology used in these trainers, is a new zipper mechanism, Flyease, that ties around the heel making it easier for people to tie their laces without having to stretch. Also this zipper doesn't rely on the use of both hands to do up the shoe, therefore this may be easier for certain people.

I think that this is a good step forward and I haven't seen many shoes that have been designed specifically with disabled people in mind and as a designer this is something that I would love to continue. Making the lives of disabled people easier so that they can be more independent and complete everyday tasks by themselves is definitely a dream of my design career.
