Today we had Stephen Davies and he gave us the opportunity to gain knowledge about branding, relevant to visual communication and also to gain an understanding about developing ourselves as a creative practitioner. We explored different values and those things in life that make us feel fulfilled.
Stephen spoke about how we all have different values and many of our lifestyle decisions are actually based upon these values. He said to think about our course, the restaurant we enjoy the most or your ideal holiday destination. These are all choices that reflect our underlying values in some way. If we think about these, we’ll start to discover more opportunities in our day to fulfil them.
To discover our values, he said we should spend some time thinking about these:
If you had all the money, all the resources and all the freedom in the world, what would you be doing? From these we should think what we would get from these experiences.
What have been your three greatest experiences in life?
For me I would:
Go traveling around the world- adventure, happiness, freedom, memories, socialising, experience of different cultures
Help charities
Volunteer in other countries- happiness, community
Take care of my family
Start my own family- happiness, people to care for
Design products to help others- improve others’ lives, sense of pride
Greatest experiences in life:
Visiting Greece
Getting into university
Meeting my nephews/niece for the first time
Thinking about why these things are important to me will show me my underlying values in life.
I think that lesson really helped me see what I want from life and my future in design. Although at first I didn't see how this would relate to our lesson I think that this could help me when writing my CV, thinking of the qualities I have and want to achieve in life.
