Lighting Model

For the lighting project we were asked to make an appearance model of our light so that we could show what we want the light to look like. As I had created the light on Solidworks this gave me a good start because I could print off the drawing views to scale and this would give me templates for sizes.
Using the drawing I cut out cardboard templates so that they could be used for checking the progress of the wood when being lathed. This made the process easier.
I had to stick pieces of timber together and then once the glue had dried round the shape so that it would fit on the lathe. This was a time wrenching taask with the normal planer and so the technician showed me how to use the electric planer which saved me a lot of time.


The block of wood was then screwed to the plate and then put on the lathe. Using a variety of chisels the shape was forming and using the templates I created the flask shape.
Using sand paper I then smoothed the surface of the wood and filled in any holes so that this would produce a smooth vacuum formed product.

Next I had to cut the mould in half!! Then it could be moulded.
